Gamblers set to dine like kings in Vegas restaurant week

Not content with being known across the world as the capital of gambling and for its extravagant nightlife, Las Vegas now wants to be taken seriously as a gourmet dining destination.

While most visitors to the city will be busy eating a burger while sat at a slot machine  while pissing into a coke cup,  or taking in a show, some of the world’s top chefs will be cooking up a treat during the first week of September.

The inaugural Las Vegas Restaurant Week will see the city’s dining establishments offering three-course menus for just $50 per person, with celebrity chefs including Tom Colicchio, Michael Mina, Bradley Odgen and Carla Pellegrino on hand to offer tips and advice.

Some of the proceeds of the week will go towards helping the Nevada-based charity Three Square to feed the state’s homeless.

Chef Michael Mina said: “I am very grateful to be a part of the first Restaurant Week in Las Vegas and hope the local community as well as our visiting guests will enjoy the special menus and events to benefit this great cause.”

The initiative is one of the latest attempts to broaden the appeal of Las Vegas, with the city also trying to increase its popularity with Asian gamblers, particularly those from China and Japan, with several venues offering attractions and amenities geared at this steadily growing market.
