Focus on women at Paddy Power
Next year’s Irish Poker Open championship will feature a ladies competition for the first time in the event’s history, it has emerged.
The news was announced by paddypowerpoker.com this week with Nikki Newman, head of poker for the website, commenting that the contest will help to bring more women into the game.
“What better backdrop could there be for a ladies poker event than the Irish Open,” she said.
Current big name players highlighted by Ms Newsman in the Irish ladies game include Colette Doherty, Irene Tier and Jenny Heggerty.
After the festival begins on the March 19th, the ladies event will deal out on Good Friday with the regulations begin a €330 (£233) no limit hold’em freezeout.
The event will be held at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin with players able to register via the competition’s website.
Last year’s open competition was won by Northern Irish man Marty Smith who received total winnings of €650,000.
