Casino won’t pay out on faulty $5.5m slot machine
Winning millions on a slot machine would come as a shock to anyone, but for one lady it came as an even bigger surprise.
The middle-aged woman from Hong Kong hit a $5.5 million jackpot in the Star World Casino in Macau - on a slot machine with a $6,000 limit.
However, staff at the venue told her she would not be eligible for the massive payout as the machine in question had simply malfunctioned.
After returning to Hong Kong with the smaller sum, she wrote to the Gaming Inspection and Co-ordination Bureau, though the body ruled that it would be unreasonable for the casino to be expected to pay her $5.5 million given the limit of the machine.
Though officials pledged to investigate the issue further, it looks likely that the lady will have to be content with her prize, which is still not bad considering she won it with a 60 cents stake.
