Casino smoking laws ‘may be loosened’
Players could still be able to smoke in Atlantic City casinos if a council ruling receives final approval.
Despite original plans to ban smoking entirely in the city’s many gaming venues, an appeal from casino executives led to the formation of a compromise agreement to allow venues to devote a quarter of their space to be designated smoking areas.
According to the New York Times, the president of the New Jersey Casino Association, Joseph A Corbo Jr, spoke at the recent Atlantic City council meeting in favour of the compromise agreement.
Casino owners and managers had originally opposed plans for a total ban on smoking in their venues as they maintained it could result in revenue losses.
The proposal is set for a final vote at the next council meeting on February 7th.
Located in New Jersey’s Atlantic County, Atlantic City is famous for its casinos and boardwalk.
