2008 WSOP to be bigger than ever, organisers announce

Just days after Jerry Yang walked away with the multi-million dollar jackpot at this year’s hugely successful event, plans have been announced to make next year’s World Series of Poker even bigger.

The tournament’s organisers Harrah’s have confirmed that the 2008 WSOP will include 12 tournament stops leading up to the Las Vegas Main Event, with the expansion a natural reaction to the increasing popularity of poker, not just in the US but across the globe.

The season kicks off on August 29th 2007 at the Grand Casino in Tunica before making stops at venues operated by Harrah’s in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, New Orleans, Iowa and California, with the buy-ins at each event set at $5,000.

However, none of the tournament’s event are scheduled to take place outside of the US, despite the fact that the WSOP is to visit London later this summer.

Jeffrey Pollack, WSOP commissioner, stated: “Strong customer demand prompted us to add another event to the Circuit schedule.

“Each event brings the thrills and excitement of the WSOP to poker players at the local and regional level,” he added.
