New poker sites ’show online gambling industry is strong’

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

The online gambling world is as strong as ever despite the introduction of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA), an advisory website states.

Playboy Gaming and GNUF Poker’s recent introduction to the online gambling scene shows that the industry is “far from crumbling”, according to WhichPoker.

WhichPoker indicates that the launch of Playboy Gaming proves established big-name brands are confident of the market’s future.

Additionally, the site describes GNUF Poker’s creation as another “high-profile” move within the sector.

It is reported by WhichPoker that some established poker, blackjack and slots sites are witnessing rising visitor numbers.

PokerStars is used as an example of this phenomenon, as it apparently draws in some 20,000 customers at peak times, compared to the 10,000 individuals it attracted before the UIGEA.

The UIGEA came into force during the first week of October 2006, prompting a number of gambling firms to pull out of the US market.

A poker player, known by many of the card game community as one of the best cash game competitors around, has proved victorious again.

John “Johnny World” Hennigan has added to his World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet and US Poker Championship titles with a win at the World Poker Tour (WPT) main event in Borgata.

A match made in poker heaven

A Russian woman has left her husband after he bet her and lost in a hand of poker, it has emerged.

And the lady in question has stayed true to the bet by marrying the victorious poker player, when he turned up her house to claim his ‘winnings’ the following day.

The incident occurred when amateur Russian poker player Sergey Brodov bet his spouse, Tatiana, after running out of cash at the card table.

Andrei Karpov accepted the bet and went on to win the game and the new love of his life in the process.

Tatiana said that the whole episode was humiliating and admitted to being “ashamed” by what her husband had done.

“As soon as my ex-husband did that I knew I had to leave him,” she said.

“Sergey was a very handsome, charming man and I am very happy with him, even if he did win me in a poker game.”

In the recent James Bond movie Casino Royale, the main character wins a car at the poker table when he beats one of his foes.

The average online casino player is revealed

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

The average online casino player, such as those who play slot machines and roulette, is female, new research reveals.

Additionally, they will be aged between 46 and 55 and visit internet casinos two to three times a week, according to a survey by gambling authority eCOGRA.

Overall, the average casino player, which will also include those who visit sites to compete at the blackjack table, has been visiting internet gambling destinations for two to three years, the research states.

It is also indicated that having visited more than six internet casinos in the three months before the research took place, the average player plays between one and two hours every session.

Further findings from eCOGRA show that internet gamblers think the best points about having an online flutter are the convenience and accessibility of it all, as well as the fun and excitement it brings.

Some 89.7 per cent of internet gamblers told eCOGRA they play at home, while ten per cent of women gamblers said they play games such as blackjack, roulette and slots in the workplace.
